Obama Thinks The GOP Wants Him To Get ‘Lost’?

March 15th, 2009

As I read through this morning news I saw an interesting snippet regarding President Obama’s talk with the President of Brazil in the Oval Office. The interesting thing was his joke that:

“You know, I would love a trip to the Amazon. I suspect that the Republican Party would love to see me travel through the Amazon and maybe get lost.”

Perhaps I’m unique in this way but I think we are probably better off with Obama than Biden or, God forbid, a “President Pelosi”. Any thoughts? Would the GOP be happy to see Biden replace Obama?

Lieberman Keeps Chairmanship

November 19th, 2008

Barack Obama effectively pardoned Joe Lieberman for supporting John McCain for president. Today, the Senate Democratic caucus voted 42 - 13 to let Lieberman keep his spot as the Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman. Harry Reid, the Senate Majority Leader, wanted to punish Lieberman, but Obama asked Reid to “let bygones be bygones.” This is a great move by Obama in my opinion.

Punishing Lieberman?

November 9th, 2008

Harry Reid, the majority leader in the Senate, is talking about punishing Joe Lieberman for supporting John McCain for president. He is talking about stripping him of his leadership positions, such as chairman of the Homeland Security committee. This is the most ridiculous thing I have heard in a long time. Joe Lieberman is a center-left democrat and he has been a leader in the Senate for a long time. He was the 2000 vice-presidential candidate with Al Gore. He has been friends with John McCain for a long time, and frankly, his beliefs are more closely aligned with McCain than they are with Obama. McCain is center-right; Obama is far-left.  I thought that it was a wonderful display of somebody actually doing what they thought was right, rather than supporting someone based solely on the party that they belong to.

African Americans Behaving Badly

November 6th, 2008

I have a great friend, one of my best, we’ll call him Bob and he had an interesting experience today. Now, I’m a black conservative and I certainly didn’t vote for Obama - but that doesn’t matter this is where we are now and hopefully he ends up being a wonderful president. Now, down to brass tacks. Black folks, you and I need to have a word. We need to sit down and talk about some truth. Black folks, you complain about stereotypes - you complain about the way people characterize you - and then I hear stories like the one I heard today and I weep for an entire race and culture. You’ve lost your way, you’ve forgotten what matters, and frankly great people (i.e. Martin Luther King Jr.) died in vain thanks to your behavior.

Let’s Party Like It’s 1976…

October 27th, 2008

A newcomer to national politics, he claimed to transcend partisan labels. He moved to the center during the campaign, at a time when the Democrats held large congressional majorities. In a troubled economy, he told voters he would keep taxes down for most Americans, limit spending, and balance the budget, all while implementing ambitious social programs. He planned to cut military spending to free money for other purposes, but assured moderates and conservatives that when it came to America’s enemies, he would be tougher than the Republicans. The media, droves of moderates, and some conservatives believed him, having pegged him as a man of character.

His name was Jimmy Carter, the year was 1976, and he won. His presidency helps us predict the likely results of an Obama victory in 2008.

This quote is from Mark Moyar who has an interesting article on what we can learn from Carter’s presidency, and what it tells us about a possible President Obama. Let’s explore some history from the  70’s and see if we can learn from it.

Does Biden Want to Win?

October 21st, 2008

The following is a quote from VP candidate Joe Biden:

It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking…. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy….

I can give you at least four or five scenarios from where it might originate… And he’s gonna need help. And the kind of help he’s gonna need is, he’s gonna need you - not financially to help him - we’re gonna need you to use your influence, your influence within the community, to stand with him. Because it’s not gonna be apparent initially, it’s not gonna be apparent that we’re right.
