I think it is more to keep his name relevant.
He has nore things that can be used against him than strengths and is a bigger target than Palin.

They used to play “Happy Days Are Here Again” at Democratic functions. Whenever I see Newt, I start humming that song, thinking “1994 is here again.”

He’s not nearly as big a target as Palin. He’s nasty, and he uses the same tired rhetoric for everything - all Democrats are Neville Chamberlain, and all Democratic ideas are secular Muslim revolutionary socialist fascism. He’s treating his followers with contempt because he knows they don’t realize those words are mutually exclusive, and he believes they are too stupid to realize that, and the more words he piles on top of each other, the more they will agree with him.

Palin may be as crass as Newt, but she’s not doing it deliberately; she really IS that stupid. That makes her a much bigger bigger target.

I was somewhat luke warm on Newt. I like him generally, but I didn’t really think he was a good candidate for President. After his comments on Sunday, then the back pedaling on Monday, I can’t vote for him. I think he may have done himself in.

Yeah, I think he hurt his chances quite a bit this week. I don’t think he’s the worst candidate we have, but I don’t think he would beat Obama unless things get much worse between now and the 2012 election. That being said, I’m not sure we have any candidates that can beat Obama at this point. Frankly none of them are very good options.
