Hope Flavored Sprinkles

February 3rd, 2009

Hope flavored sprinkles are what you need to think that this stimulus package is anything other than a joke.

Someone asked me what I think we should spend the money on instead of what is in the bill. Ok, where do I start. I don’t think we should spend money we don’t have on things we don’t need. We don’t have any of this money we are planning on spending. We are very deeply in debt. Does anyone else think it is ironic that we are trying to spend money we don’t have to get us out of a crisis created by people borrowing more than they could afford?

The problem is that we are over 10 trillion dollars in debt. Do you know what that looks like? 10,000,000,000,000. Yes, that is a 1 followed by thirteen zeros. We pay 1.4 billion dollars A DAY on the interest for that debt. Think about all the wonderful things Congress could do with that money. (That was a joke if you didn’t catch it). Or how about this, maybe let you and I keep it in our pockets.

I don’t have a problem with everything in the bill. Some of the things, like the mass transit and infrastructure spending is useful(Amtrak does not fall into this category, they suck). Incentives and tax cuts for business to hire new workers is fine. The tax rebates are certainly welcome. These are the few things that I am mostly ok with to answer the original question.

The key here though is that we shouldn’t be wasting so much money. We should not be borrowing from China or Japan to fund many of the stupid things in this bill. Get rid of the junk that is not creating jobs, helping our infrastructure, and stimulating the economy.

Most of this stimulus bill is just pent up frustration by the Democrats for not being able to do much of anything for the last 8 years. Now that they have a big majority in Congress and control of the White House, they want to spend some money on pet projects. That is what they are doing in this bill. It is a horrible piece of legislation, and anybody who doesn’t see that is blinded by their fascination with President Obama or hallucinating from all the hope flavored sprinkles.
